Through consultation with the MOJ and police forces across the country, we have developed CODE to provide a better environment for all who engage with it, from staff and visitors to the detainees themselves.

We have achieved this through:

  • Incorporation of greater access to natural light in the building
  • Clean robust and professional environments
  • Improved building acoustics and efficient thermal comfort
  • An ordered and logical building that follows natural process flows
  • Less reliance on SOPs as building reduces risk
  • Compliant, good specification staff facilities

As part of our processes we always return to our completed projects and feedback has highlighted a number of benefits:

  • Reduction in staff sick days
  • Happier staff
  • Improved detainee behaviour
  • Working in custody no longer seen as a “punishment” post
  • Better compliance in interview leading to better convictions
