Through consultation with the MOJ and police forces across the country, we have developed CODE to provide a better environment for all who engage with it, from staff and visitors to the detainees themselves.
We have achieved this through:
- Incorporation of greater access to natural light in the building
- Clean robust and professional environments
- Improved building acoustics and efficient thermal comfort
- An ordered and logical building that follows natural process flows
- Less reliance on SOPs as building reduces risk
- Compliant, good specification staff facilities
As part of our processes we always return to our completed projects and feedback has highlighted a number of benefits:
- Reduction in staff sick days
- Happier staff
- Improved detainee behaviour
- Working in custody no longer seen as a “punishment” post
- Better compliance in interview leading to better convictions
